Gamestop spoke about plans to move into the DLC market. With a plan to begin to testing the new service next year where gamers will buy DLC in stores. Gamestop COO Paul Raines told Reuters ” A large market for full game downloads is not imminent, but the add on downloadable market will grow.
Frankly this sounds like one of most ridiculous plans ever. But, they did manage to become the largest video game retailer with the simple business plan of buying games back at a fraction of what they sold them for, then reselling them at near retail. If its one thing that Gamestop’s business model relies on its the sheer stupidity of the consumer. I mean why not stop on over at your local Gamestop to pay for downloadable content, if you like making unneccesary trips to the store why not? It will still be neccesary to download the content once you return home. But do you really think that Microsoft is gonna give up a monopoly on DLC? Anti-trust in the makings Methinks. You heard it here first kids, Gamestop will have to sue!
