Peter Dille sent some shots over the bow at Microsoft Tuesday evening. Dille is Sony’s senior Vice President of Marketing and the Big Boss of the Playstation Network. Dille’s comments stated that “I’m confident we’ll be around in 10 years and I can say that because we’ve done it twice. PS3 will be around in 10 years and probably much longer than that.” ” We can be passionate fans, but I don’t think they’ll (Xbox) be around in 10 years so I’m very confident we’ll pass them within that time frame. I mean we’ve got 31 million worldwide right now — they’ve got 39 million. I don’t even need to go out 10 years.”
That’s a pretty ambitious comment knowing that Microsoft will good and well throw billions of dollars at even the most futile of efforts, let alone the cash cow that is Xbox Live. I’m no professional analyst but four years in, after Xbox360 has pretty much reached the consumers it tried to, it’s not a huge stretch of the imagination to figure that gamers who early adopted with the 360 are now considering having a second console… But that just me.
